When I say “God Sent”!!! I mean it!!!! The BEST staff yet! The Doctor is AMAZING 🤩. I’m so glad I stumbled in her last month because during my storm ⛈️, this was exactly where I needed to be. Blessings to all you read this review. I had the most wonderful experience at Open Smile Dental in Waldorf, Md today, 4/7/25. For starters, this office is VERY NEAT AND CLEAN! Now, about those BEAUTIFUL women at the front desk! THEY ARE THE MOST PROFESSIONAL WOMEN I’VE COME IN CONTACT WITH AT A DENTIST OFFICE IN A LONG TIME!!! When you approach the front desk, you are greeted with a joyful smile! their demeanor was respectful and says “welcome to our family!” Their tone was warm and friendly that matched their smile. The process to get you checked in was immediate. The wait time to be called to the back was quick! This front office staff made me feel valued and important to the point where my husband said “I need to make an appointment here” that says a lot about this front office staff, they are AMAZING/AWESOME!❤️😍 The dental assistant who prepped me and took Xray’s and pictures, such a BEAUTIFUL! person. It was a complete joy to be in her presence. She’s just as professional and respectful as the women at front desk. She has a big smile, which you can feel and see behind the mask and very friendly. She explained everything she was going to do step by step and why she was doing it. She was extremely gentle, and constantly asked me if I was ok and made sure I was comfortable. Her demeanor helped me relax and feel comfortable. She was AWESOME! 😍❤️ Dr. Akinwande, WOOOW! This BEAUTIFUL, PHENOMENON, GRACIOUS, STUPENDOUS woman blew my mind! Her positivity shines through her mask. She wore a smile the entire time. She gives you her undivided attention and makes eye contact with you. She shared her own testimony to help me understand what she was suggesting regarding my wisdom teeth. Her words of encouragement was impactful! She is very compassionate, respectful and 100% professional. I didn’t feel rushed when we talked about my past dental experience and my needle phobia she listened and made me feel heard and comfortable. She understood the assignment for today and told me her “thinking outside the box” ideas for me for my wisdom teeth. She was EXTREMELY patience with me because my anxiety kicked in was she began filling in my cavity and allowrd me to take a break to catch my breath. She cares about your smile. She constantly reassures you while she working by saying “You’re doing great” which is very comforting and a anxiety-reducing experience. She has ALL the qualities that fosters TRUST, RAPPORT, and a LONGEVITY! and has patient-centered approach. I felt like my oral health and comfort was her priority. At the end, after the work was done. She attentively listened to my concerns and answered even more questions. Dr. Akinwande needs to be your dentist of choice, if you want the BEST!😍❤️. P.S. From the very first visit, Dr. Akinwande and her team—especially Shelly at the front desk—have been incredibly kind, patient, and compassionate with my mother, who has severe dental anxiety. Finding a provider with experience in treating seniors and trauma-affected patients was a top priority for me, and I am so grateful to have found this office. Dr. Akinwande is not only highly skilled but also incredibly kind, caring, and attentive. She takes the time to explain everything in a way that puts my mother at ease and ensures she feels comfortable during each visit. The level of care doesn’t stop when we leave the office—the doctor and staff have even called to follow up after appointments to check on my mother’s gums and teeth, how she’s adjusting to her new dentures, and to make sure she’s doing well overall. While it is a bit of a drive for us, the quality of care and the staff’s attention to detail make it more than worth it. Shelly, in particular, has gone above and beyond to ensure my mother feels supported throughout her visits. Thanks to their commitment to getting her the care she needed—and our persistence in following through—my mother’s dental health has drastically improved. I truly appreciate this office’s dedication and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a provider who genuinely cares about patients.

Go to this dental office if you want to be misled and scammed. I was a carryover patient from Dr. Browne (who was a wonderful dentist). I went in for a dental examination for a possible filling that fell out. I called to make the appointment and was told they took my new dental insurance. I came in as usual, filled out paperwork, and got x-ray scans done. The minute the dentist came, she gave me the most extreme option of what was another tooth problem and not the filling. She also started pushing me to get multiple procedures done, barely examining original problems or giving me other options. She completely overwhelmed me and sent me off to the front desk. Where again, I was pushed to get these procedures done and pushed to be put on a massive payment plan, which was completely odd because they had told me they took my insurance, I couldn't make the down payment (thank god), and deferred to doing it another day. Before leaving, the front desk worker had me scan a QR code for a Google review and reached over and pressed five stars on my phone herself. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL. I quickly changed the star rating and left. I had to sit in the parking lot for 15 minutes to decompress. On my way home, I got a call from the front office asking if my reducing the star rating was a mistake and to change it to five stars!!!! The next day, I checked my insurance claims and came to find out the dental office was OUT OF NETWORK. They had completely lied to me and tried to take my money. Not once stating that they were out of network. This is troubling, to say the least, I've never been treated like a cash cow by a doctor of any kind. This doctor and her front desk staff should be ashamed of themselves. They try to get you with their welcoming music and smiles, but it's all a front.

Let me tell you this was the best consultation I have ever had from a dentist. Shelly got me in for an emergency appointment and listened to all of my concerns and help me calm down and u sweat and the process. I can say I wouldn’t have done this without her. The dentist helped me get out of the severe pain I was in. They offered a plan to make it so that I could afford the treatment without breaking the bank. I can say I haven’t gone to the dentist in years and because of Shelly I am back to fixing my smile. Thank you Open Smiles Dental! 5 stars! Highly recommend!
